FAQ's (frequently asked questions)

How do I sign up for classes?
Signing up is easy. Create an online account by clicking here. Once you have set up your account, you can reserve and cancel classes online, make purchases, view your scheduled classes, and see your visit history. If you need help creating an account or signing up online, or to discuss which class options are best for you, feel free to call (267) 275-2262 and a friendly staff person will assist you or respond back to your call within a few hours.

What should I wear?
Dress comfortably so that your movement is not restricted, but try not to wear clothing that is too loose fitting. It is important that the instructor be able to observe your body as you move. For privacy, bike shorts or undergarments should be worn if shorts are loose fitting. Socks are required for sanitary reasons.  Socks with grips provide great traction for safety and are the best choice. For your convenience we sell ToeSox at the studio. For the comfort of others, please do not wear heavy perfumes or use tobacco before coming to class.

How many times per week should I attend class?
It depends on the results you want to achieve and how quickly you would like to achieve them. The more often you work out, the quicker you see and feel improvement. We recommend at minimum of twice a week. Some people do three times a week. Once a week is still beneficial, but results will be slower, unless you are also practicing at home.

What is The Difference Between Pilates Mat and Equipment Sessions?
Mat work is just one component of the whole system of exercises that Pilates offers. When you do Pilates on the Mat, you must support your body weight with gravity as resistance through the movements. Mat work is a great way to begin Pilates when apparatus is not available. It is also portable for those individuals who travel frequently or prefer the privacy of their own home. Small apparatus can be used in mat Pilates such as balls, rollers, rings, and bands.

When you work out on equipment such as the Springboard, your movements and the weight of your body are supported by a system of springs varying in resistance. The specially designed springs help tailor the degree of difficulty. The equipment can simplify Pilates concepts for beginners as well as provide unique challenges as you become stronger and more flexible allowing for a greater array of movements and positions.

Will Pilates Help My Back Pain?
A Pilates workout can be Vigorous or gentle according to your respectable level and your body's capability. However, Pilates is always controlled and practiced with with no sudden or jarring actions. Pilates focuses on abdominal strength, flexibility, and posture lending itself well to those with back pain. However, these principles can be difficult to learn in a group setting, especially for those who may require specific modifications to avoid re-injury or aggravation of symptoms. We recommend that all clients with a history of back pain, especially if it is ongoing, take a private session before participating in the mat class. This allows us to evaluate your abilities and make recommendations to improve the safety of each exercise. Back pain can be a mystery. Sometimes it is a lack of strength and flexibility. Other instance may require medical attention. The probability that most of us over 30 have some loss of disc integrity is high. We are happy to assist you in finding the right formula.
